A powerful earthquake in Türkiye has left one person dead and several dozen injured, according to a post by Turkish interior minister Ali Yerlikaya on X and TRT Haber.

"I ask God’s mercy for the 81-year-old man who lost his life and a speedy recovery for the injured," the minister wrote.

He said the man was pulled from under the rubble but could not be saved despite doctors’ efforts.

Yerlikaya added that 29 people were injured in the earthquake, none of them seriously. Sixteen houses were destroyed, and residents of four buildings were evacuated.
