Russian military leadership continues to release statements about alleged battlefield gains, but the claims voiced by the head of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, are not supported by Ukrainian sources and do not align with the actual situation on the ground, according to Russian media.
Russian chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov claimed in his latest briefing that Russian forces have allegedly encircled Stepnohirsk in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Such statements, however, are not corroborated by Ukrainian sources, which note that reports from Russian military leadership consistently present a narrative favourable to Moscow.
Dnipro direction
According to Gerasimov, units of the Russian Armed Forces are "successfully advancing" in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Ukrainian structures stress that these claims are not supported by evidence and serve primarily as propaganda aimed at creating the impression of sustained pressure on Ukrainian defences.
Donetsk direction: Kostiantynivka and Sieviersk
Gerasimov also stated that around 30% of buildings in Kostiantynivka are allegedly under Russian control.
Sievier-sk became another example of similar claims: Gerasimov insists that Russian forces “are clearing about 100 buildings per day” and that assault groups are engaged in street fighting.
Red Lyman
Gerasimov further reported that assault elements of the “West” grouping have entered Red Lyman in the Luhansk region.
As with other statements, this information has not been confirmed by the Ukrainian side and is viewed as yet another attempt to frame the frontline situation to Moscow’s advantage.
Meanwhile, discussions on the US peace plan continue, but the key issue of possible territorial concessions has effectively stalled the talks, as Ukraine firmly rejects any proposals involving the transfer of Donbas areas that remain under Ukrainian control.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has emphasised that Ukraine seeks to end the war on terms acceptable to the country, underscoring the need for an outcome that preserves national dignity and resilience.
