If newly elected US President Donald Trump was against the US allowing Ukraine to conduct strikes, he would have stated it personally. However, for now, only his supporters are talking about escalation, said political analyst Oleh Saakian in a commentary to the RBC-Ukraine.

According to the political analyst, Trump’s team is currently maintaining a broad stance on the situation surrounding the US approval.

"As for Trump Jr. and Elon Musk, there’s really nothing to discuss here. These individuals do not directly influence this specific area. They’ve made numerous statements that contradict the actions taken by Trump and his team," said Saakian.

Regarding Mike Waltz, whom Trump selected as his National Security Advisor, he also expressed his position in an interesting way. Waltz stated that no one consulted him about approving Ukraine’s strikes on Russia. Saakian noted that Waltz specifically avoided saying "with us," "with the team," or "with the president-elect."

"He didn’t say the decision was wrong. Instead, he called it an escalation ladder, suggesting there would be a response from Russia, then North Korea, followed by the US, and questioned where this cycle leads," the analyst explained.

It’s also important to note Trump’s remarks, emphasizing that parties need to come to the negotiating table to end the war.

"However, none of them said Trump would reverse this decision on his first day in office. This suggests it’s highly likely Biden informed Trump about this decision in advance," Saakian concluded.

Authorization to strike Russia

Over the weekend, media reported that the United States had approved the use of American weapons by Ukrainian forces to carry out strikes on Russian territory.

Shortly after, China’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.

Today, US Under Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian A. Nichols officially confirmed that the White House has authorized Ukraine to use long-range weapons for strikes on Russian territory.
