Trump frustrated by Putin’s manipulations in Ukraine peace talks - Expert

President of the United States Donald Trump is being frustrated by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s manipulations in the peace process between Russia and Ukraine, stated historian and diplomat Roman Bezsmertnyi in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.
According to experts, Trump "perfectly understands" that Putin never intended to sign a peace agreement with Ukraine or agree to a ceasefire. But in such a situation, the American leader acts based on his own interests and the interests of the United States.
"The number of problems facing Washington is growing and not decreasing. And this is a direct consequence of the sluggish policy by Washington," Bezsmertnyi said.
He believes that Trump will eventually feel a strong antipathy toward Moscow. The expert noted that during a recent interview with NBC News, the American leader became visibly nervous when the journalist asked him about a ceasefire and negotiations on Russia’s war against Ukraine.
"This kind of nervous tension during the conversation on this topic clearly indicates that Moscow is beginning to irritate him, constantly cornering him," Bezsmertnyi said. In this case, the expert added, Kyiv is taking the position currently held by Washington.
Trump’s peace efforts
US President Donald Trump is attempting to act as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine to end the war.
Just yesterday, on May 4, he stated that Washington is "closer with one party," although he did not specify whether he meant Ukraine or Russia.
The American leader also did not rule out the possibility that the US may stop acting as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.
