Pushed back by decades: Expert discusses Hamas' capabilities after Gaza fighting
Israel has almost destroyed Hamas' combat potential in the Gaza Strip. The Islamist movement has actually rolled back decades, says Israeli military expert Yigal Levin in the RBC-Ukraine article “One year since Hamas attack: How Israel wages war against terrorists and what's to come”.
“Hamas today is no longer the threat it was before October 7 last year. Gaza is destroyed, Israeli military bases are present there, it is divided into two parts, and infrastructure is being rebuilt,” the expert said.
Levin adds that since the beginning of the IDF operation in the Gaza Strip, Hamas has been pushed back by decades, reverting to just another terrorist organization capable only of regular terrorism - no longer with a mini-army with its own mini-state
Operation in the Gaza Strip
On October 7, 2023, Hamas militants attacked Israel, killing more than a thousand people and taking hundreds hostage. Israel, in response, launched a military operation against terrorists in the Gaza Strip.
Later, Hamas released about 120 hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners. The UN confirmed cases of sexual violence against women during the attack.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) warned that the approaching anniversary of the attack and the escalating situation in the Middle East could lead to new acts of violence by extremist groups.
