Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin will sign a treaty on a "comprehensive strategic partnership" today. However, the agreement will not affect the course of hostilities in Ukraine, states political technologist Taras Zahorodnii in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.

"Let's put it this way, this is great news, let them sign. Well, Iran has helped as much as it could in this," said Zahorodnyi.

According to him, Russia is feverishly trying to show that it and Iran have some influence in the Middle East to threaten Israel after the Russian forces were "kicked out" of Syria.

"Therefore, I don’t think this will impact the course of hostilities. Because North Korea helps them (the Russian forces - ed.) more. But whether Putin can bargain something there? Well, this is like Trump’s blackmail," noted the expert.

In his opinion, "internally, they have long been ready to strike Iran and carry out a military operation there to prevent it from having nuclear weapons."

"This is a direct challenge to Trump, and that’s very good. Putin is bluffing. Well, let him bluff. Let them sign. We should wish them great success on their way to the abyss," Zahorodnii added.

Partnership agreement between Iran and Russia

On Friday, January 17, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet in Moscow to sign a strategic partnership agreement. The deal is expected to regulate relations between the two countries over the next 20 years.

Recently, The Times reported that Iran is carrying out diplomatic missions in Russia. According to sources cited by the news agency, the country aims to strengthen its military and defense capabilities and secure Moscow's support in implementing its nuclear program.
