After the oil refinery attacks, the impact on Russia's economy is likely to enter a new phase, involving the use of jet-powered drones, aviation expert Kostiantyn Kryvolap shared this opinion in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.

"I already understand that the next stage won't involve our slow-moving drones. Next will come jet-powered drones with a larger warhead, marking a new phase in striking Russia's economy," he said.

According to the expert, Ukraine’s Defense Forces are currently inflicting gradual damage on Russia's military-industrial complex (MIC). However, with greater capabilities, they will be able to strike with larger warheads at greater distances — or at the exact range needed. "With a 700 km range, we can eliminate 60-70% of Russia’s MIC," he added.

"We are achieving exceptional results with precise strikes. I predict that some prototypes of jet-powered drones already exist, more will appear within the next six months, and by the second half of the year, we will likely see their mass deployment," Kryvolap noted.

He admitted there could be a margin of error of about three months.

"But I believe that by the end of the year, we will see mass-produced systems delivering serious results," the expert concluded.

Testing of a jet-powered drone in Ukraine

Back in July 2024, Militarnyi reported that Ukrainian developers had conducted flight tests of a jet-powered drone designed to intercept aerial targets. At the time, it was the Bullet jet-powered interceptor drone.

During the flight, the drone reached a speed of approximately 130 km/h. For spatial navigation, it used a camera similar to those found in FPV drones.

Recently, reports emerged that the Finnish company Insta will present the extended-range Steel Eagle drone at SecD Day. The drone was developed specifically for Ukraine in collaboration with Ukrainian specialists.
