Drone attack hits Russian chemical plant in Perm region
Smoke rose over the Azot chemical plant in Berezniki as Russian authorities reported an early-morning drone attack in the Perm region.
Smoke was seen above the Azot chemical plant in Berezniki, Russia’s Perm region, amid reports of air-defense activity and a drone attack. The regional Ministry of Territorial Security said air defenses were repelling what it described as enemy drones, while emergency services were deployed. Russia’s Defense Ministry included the Perm region in its report, claiming that 443 drones were intercepted or destroyed overnight across Russia and occupied Crimea. Azot, a branch of Uralchem Group, produces ammonia, nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate and urea. Nitric acid from the plant is supplied to Russian defense-industry facilities for the production of explosives and propellants.
