While everyone is talking about diesel, the world could face a grain crisis in as little as two to three months, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Warsaw Security Forum.
“Everyone is talking about diesel and forgetting about grain. In a month or two, everyone will start talking about an agricultural crisis,” Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy also questioned Russia’s cooperation with the United States on diesel fuel.
“Why isn’t America making a “diesel deal” with Ukraine? Let Ukraine propose a “diesel deal.” We do have influence over whether these ships can sail or not, whether these refineries can operate or not. If that’s the case, then let’s do it,” the president said.
Will Russia’s proposed volumes affect the market?
Speaking about the volumes Russia is offering, the president said he did not expect them to have a significant impact on the market.
“I don’t believe the volume of diesel Russia will export will affect the price. Moreover, we see that they can export from 300,000 to 500,000 tons a month today. Meanwhile, global consumption stands at 120 million tons a month. What kind of impact can that have? I don’t think it would have any. If some people think otherwise, so be it. So I believe there are entirely different reasons behind these actions,” the Ukrainian president said.
On October 11, US President Donald Trump announced an “energy ceasefire” between Ukraine and Russia.
He said both sides had agreed to it but did not specify when it would take effect.
RBC-Ukraine later reported that Zelenskyy said Russia had violated the ceasefire.
He also said Ukraine was ready to sign agreements on guarantees for a ceasefire and was awaiting details of the US talks with Russia.
RBC-Ukraine also reported on Ukraine’s and Russia’s responses to Trump’s announcement.
Just hours after the announcement, Russian forces struck energy infrastructure in Kharkiv.
