Ukraine would like to hold a meeting with the American and Russian teams in Abu Dhabi before the planned talks between the United States, China, and Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.
The president explained that it is not yet clear exactly what the United States, China and Russia will discuss.
Zelenskyy believes the Middle East and the war in Ukraine will be at the center of their discussions.
“I really don’t want this to become ‘Yalta 2, 3, 4,’ with influence being redistributed. I would even say not influence itself, but the idea that things can be divided up this way. Today, we live in a different world. This fragmented world is very different from the world before and after World War II. It is a completely different technological world,” the president stressed.
Zelenskyy believes that, in today’s reality, such a redistribution of power among three major countries is impossible. However, he said this is precisely what the Kremlin is trying to achieve.
“I would draw attention to who wants this meeting the most. I believe that, after Alaska, this would be another major diplomatic advantage for Russia if everything unfolds as the Russians are now floating it, in line with their desire for a new ‘Yalta.’ I think Russia wants this more than anyone else,” the president stressed.
In his view, China is currently the least interested in such a meeting because it has yet to see any benefits from it.
“We’ll see what kind of meeting this turns out to be. We would very much like our meeting in Abu Dhabi to take place before it,” Zelenskyy concluded.
Earlier, Zelenskyy commented on Russia’s demands for NATO to roll back to its 1997 positions.
He also issued an important warning to the United States about restoring economic cooperation with Russia.
Zelenskyy also explained how the war in the Middle East has affected Ukraine.
