In Washington on August 18, territorial concessions to Russia will be discussed during a White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff's statement on CNN Live on August 17.

According to Witkoff, US President Donald Trump and Zelenskyy will discuss the land swap deal during the meeting. The idea is being promoted by Trump.

"The issue of land swaps, which are apparently ultimately under Ukrainian control, will be discussed on Monday. It was not discussed at the meeting with Putin," Witkoff said. He added that tomorrow, Zelenskyy would tell us which territories he is willing to give up to Putin.

Earlier, Witkoff claimed that Russia had allegedly made concessions to Ukraine regarding five regions. However, the Special Envoy could not provide any concrete details, and questions about the specifics in the agreement appeared to leave him flustered.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in Brussels on August 17 that any territorial issues should only be discussed by national leaders during a trilateral meeting. Russia, however, has not yet shown signs that it is ready for such a meeting.

According to media reports, Putin approached the US with a request regarding Ukraine. He reportedly wants Washington to recognize temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories as part of Russia. He also allegedly proposed freezing the front lines in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions in exchange for a halt to fighting and the withdrawal of Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas. He pledged in writing not to attack Ukraine or Europe.
