Zelenskyy to chair meeting on Ukraine's defense strategy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, today, at the weekly meeting with members of the National Security and Defense Council, will discuss Ukraine’s defense and resilience against Russia this fall and winter, according to NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov.
Zelenskyy will hear a report on the operational situation at the front – the Defense Forces continue to hold positions, restraining the enemy despite constant pressure.
“A separate block is mobilization and new conditions of contract service (18–24). Mechanisms will be presented to ensure effective recruitment and retention of trained personnel,” Umerov wrote.
The meeting will also consider a set of measures to counter Russian missile and drone strikes on critical infrastructure facilities, aimed at reducing the enemy’s potential and strengthening the protection of energy and transport.
“Separately, we expect the president’s instructions to the heads of the security and defense sector and government officials following his meetings and agreements this week in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly,” the NSDC Secretary added.
Service in the Armed Forces
Ukraine planned to expand the contract format for those liable for military service, which is now available for people aged 18 to 24.
This new approach will be applied to other age groups, and possibly also to those already serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine through mobilization.
In July of this year, a law was adopted that allowed Ukrainians over 60 years old to voluntarily join the Armed Forces.
Zelenskyy recently returned from New York, where he held a number of important meetings within the framework of the 80th UN General Assembly.
There was also a meeting of the president with the White House chief, Donald Trump, where the main topic was establishing peace in Ukraine.
