Zelenskyy signs decree on dismissal of all regional military heads
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has approved the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), which entails the order to dismiss all chiefs of regional military recruitment offices, according to the decree of the head of state.
"To put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated August 11, 2023, 'On the Results of the Inspection of Territorial Centers for the Recruitment and Social Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the document states.
What the NSDC decision entails
On August 11, the National Security and Defense Council recommended to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, to dismiss all chiefs of regional territorial offices for recruitment and social support.
They were instructed to appoint military personnel who have experienced the front but cannot fight due to health issues to these positions.
The reason behind these decisions
Recently, scandals related to the leadership of military recruitment offices have become resonant in Ukraine. In particular, journalists discovered that the head of the territorial recruitment office of the Odesa region, Yevhen Borysov, owns a villa in Spain and luxury cars.
At the same time, the military head of the recruitment office of the Dnipropetrovsk region is suspected of illicit enrichment, as he registered several cars and two apartments in Dnipro under his father's name during the full-scale war.
Against this backdrop, inspections of the entire leadership of military recruitment offices have been launched in Ukraine. According to Zelenskyy, law enforcement agencies have uncovered numerous egregious abuses.
