Earlier, the reports indicated that Russian leader Vladimir Putin did not come to the negotiations with Zelenskyy. He sent a low-level delegation to Istanbul, which includes:
- Russian President's Aide, Vladimir Medinsky (Head of the delegation);
- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin;
- Chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Armed Forces Igor Kostyukov;
- Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin.
Putin also sent four so-called experts to the talks.
Possible negotiations between Ukraine and Russia
Zelenskyy traveled to Türkiye to meet with Putin, who, while ignoring the ceasefire proposal, suggested resuming direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
The President of Ukraine emphasized that he would first meet with Erdoğan in Ankara and wait for the Russian dictator. Zelenskyy noted that he was ready to fly to Istanbul if Putin showed up there.
Sources cited by The Wall Street Journal stated that the Ukrainian delegation may discuss a ceasefire with Russian representatives. The meeting has not yet been officially confirmed.
