Sustainable results in nutrition are achieved not through strict restrictions but through simple and systematic changes. However, there is one group of foods that can slow down weight loss, according to Ukrainian doctor and dietitian Kateryna Tolstikova.
What helps most with weight loss
The first key factor, according to the expert, is the structure and regularity of meals.
“When a person consistently eats the same foods at regular times, it creates a stable foundation for the body’s core systems and overall health,” Tolstikova explains.
She adds that a stable diet with predictable meal times allows the body to work more efficiently and reduces the risk of overeating, bingeing, and chaotic snacking.
Another change that provides the longest-lasting effect is the conscious and regular consumption of plant-based foods.
“The most lasting results come from intentionally adding vegetables, fruits, and berries to your diet,” Tolstikova emphasizes.
Daily inclusion of these foods supports a healthy microbiome, boosts anti-inflammatory processes, and promotes overall well-being.

The second important step, according to the doctor, is eliminating calorie-dense liquids from the daily diet.
“These include juices, fresh fruit drinks, smoothies, compotes, soda, sugary syrups, honey, as well as soups and borscht, any liquid food that is often present in our diet and can negatively affect the body,” she notes.
Tolstikova stresses that liquid calories are consumed unnoticed and do not provide a sense of fullness. If men and women avoid such foods and focus on whole foods, positive changes appear much faster.
