Dr. Joe Whittington warned that a common nighttime habit can be skin aging during sleep. According to him, this routine not only causes the development of wrinkles but can also lead to facial asymmetry.

What habit at night contributes to aging

Joe Whittington, who is best known online as Dr. Joe, said that your pillow could be the reason why your face is not symmetrical.

According to him, constant pressure on one side of your face can cause wrinkles to develop as well as facial asymmetry.

The expert refers to a scientific study published in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2014. From the analysis of 147 pairs of identical twins, the study authors concluded that "a certain lying position during sleep" was one of the four factors that can lead to facial asymmetry.

Dr. Joe added that the types of wrinkles that result from sleeping on your side are difficult to get rid of.

Fortunately, he said there are three ways to minimize the risk of this happening.

The most important advice from the expert is to sleep on your back.

"Sleep on your side, on your back, but not on your stomach," Joe advised.

But if you can't break the habit of sleeping on your side, the doctor advises changing your sleeping position from time to time.
