X Corp ceases operations in Brazil: Reason revealed
X Corp, owned by renowned billionaire Elon Musk and the company behind the social network formerly known as Twitter, has announced the immediate closure of its operations in Brazil, according to LATEST LY.
The decision was made after a Supreme Court judge, Alexandre de Moraes, allegedly threatened the company's legal representative with arrest in Brazil if it did not comply with a censorship order.
CEO Linda Yaccarino expressed deep regret over the closure, calling it a "sad day for the people of Brazil." Despite the shutdown, the social network X will remain accessible in the country.
The company's move follows months of legal battles. Elon Musk had promised to lift restrictions on popular accounts in Brazil, even if it meant ceasing operations.
X Corp criticized Moraes' actions as undemocratic, placing full responsibility for the closure on the judiciary.
It is reported that Elon Musk's X Corp has been fined 700,000 Brazilian reais for failing to comply with censorship orders regarding posts about the country's politicians.
On August 9, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced a ten-day ban on the operation of the social network X in the country. The decision was made during active protests against the election results.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the British government called on Elon Musk to act responsibly after the billionaire posted messages on his X social network that, according to British officials, could further fuel the violent unrest sweeping the country.
