Warcraft I and II return to PC as remasters
As part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of Warcraft, Blizzard delighted fans with the release of Warcraft Remastered Battle Chest. The collection includes updated versions of the classic strategy games Warcraft I and II, as well as fresh content for Warcraft III: Reforged, reports the American tech website The Verge.
What is known about the Warcraft remasters
The first two games in the Warcraft series have received an update similar to the 2017 StarCraft remaster. Original sprites and maps have been replaced with more detailed, high-resolution images. The Battle.net page for the collection also mentions updated features for a more comfortable gaming experience. Notably, only one-third of the collection is available on Mac, with the first two games being PC-exclusive.
The 2.0 update for Warcraft III: Reforged seems like an attempt by Blizzard to redeem itself after the failed 2020 remaster. The release was met with such negative feedback from players that the company had to implement an automatic refund system with no questions asked. The new version promises improved environments, fully customizable graphics, and the ability to play with the original graphics in high resolution.
If you don’t need all three games, they can be purchased separately. Warcraft I: Remastered costs $9.99, Warcraft II: Remastered is priced at $14.99, and Warcraft III: Reforged is available for $29.99.
In addition to the remasters, Blizzard announced a crossover between Hearthstone and StarCraft called Heroes of StarCraft, set to release in January 2025. The company will also update World of Warcraft, adding a new dungeon to the modern version and the Mists of Pandaria expansion for WoW Classic, bringing it as close as possible to its 2012 state. Moreover, the mobile game Warcraft Rumble will enter beta on PC on December 10.
