When to eat peaches to overcome afternoon drowsiness
Dietitian and nutritionist Amy Brownstein said that snacking on peaches during the day can provide the necessary fuel to maintain stable blood sugar levels and prevent an afternoon slump. Peaches contain carbohydrates, which the body breaks down into glucose, which is then used to produce energy.
Unlike more refined sources of carbohydrates, such as candy or other sweet treats, peaches contain fiber, which helps slow the absorption of glucose and provide more stable energy levels.
Peaches also contain natural sugars, fiber, water, vitamins, and polyphenols. This helps maintain more stable blood sugar levels and may influence the effect of peaches on alertness and energy levels.
Best time for an energy boost
The best time to eat peaches for an energy boost before a workout is within an hour after a workout.
Peaches are 89% water and contain 13 g of carbohydrates, as well as essential electrolytes such as potassium and magnesium. Eating a snack with about 15 g of carbohydrates within an hour before a workout provides the necessary energy for strength training.
Starting a workout with adequate hydration is key to preventing dehydration, which can affect workout performance and cognitive function.
Eating a peach before a workout can provide nearly 1/2 cup of fluid, helping to minimize the likelihood of dehydration.
