Volgograd oil refinery with 14M tons capacity damaged
On the night of Friday, January 31, one of the largest oil refineries in Russia was attacked. The refinery is located in the Volgograd region, according to the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko.
"The Volgograd oil refinery was hit. It is one of the largest in the Russian Federation," Kovalenko wrote.
He also clarified that the refinery's processing capacity is approximately 14 million tons of oil per year, making it the sixth largest oil refinery in Russia. The plant produces gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, and aviation fuel.
Background
Earlier this night, Russians reported explosions in the Volgograd region. Sounds of explosions, drone flights, and gunfire were heard at around 3:00 AM local time.
Local residents claimed that unknown drones attacked a refinery in the Krasnoarmeysky district. However, there were also reports of an attack on the Lukoil refinery, which is located directly in Volgograd.
Other attacks on Russian territory
On the night of January 29, Ukrainian forces attacked an oil refinery in the city of Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region. The attack caused a serious fire.
Meanwhile, on January 30, a distribution station of the Druzhba oil pipeline in the Bryansk region may have been targeted.
