Since the current US President Donald Trump appointed JD Vance as the vice-presidential candidate, and since his inauguration following the elections, eight months have passed. However, Vance is already being positioned as the successor to "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) in 2028, that is, as a presidential candidate, reports Axios.

"I think it's inevitable at this point that Vance will be the [GOP] nominee in 2028. He's the future of the America First movement and he's already proven himself," said Senator Jim Banks, a close ally of Trump, in a comment to Axios.

Axios reports that many of Trump's oldest aides and most ardent supporters now view the vice president as a means to solidify the worldview of the current US president, at least for the next decade. In their view, Trump has dismantled the old Republican Party, and Vance could complete the building of a new one.

In particular, Vance won the support of Trump’s followers through his combative public speeches, his skillful relationship-building with the US president’s team, and his unwavering commitment to the White House chief’s vision.

Among the key moments is the vice president’s scandal with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office. While the situation attracted criticism on both sides of the Atlantic and even from some Republicans, the resolution of the incident was met with applause from Trump’s loyalists. Additionally, Vance’s fighter speech at the Munich Security Conference captivated Republicans.

A person close to Donald Trump Jr. told Axios that Trump’s son was over the moon with the results from JD and feels completely justified for spending his political capital last summer urging his father to choose Vance as vice president. Moreover, Vance impressed financial magnates within Trump’s circle.

In addition, he has gained support through the growing MAGA media sphere, which includes podcasts and influential figures.

Matt Boyle, the head of the Washington bureau for the Trump-friendly publication Breitbart News, stated that when it comes to the 2028 elections, Vance is the clear favorite and right now, no one can match him in strength.

"He's also been very smart about developing strong relationships with a lot of the MAGA America First OG's, and with Congress in passing President Trump's agenda and confirming the president's Cabinet," Boyle added.

Furthermore, the senior editor of Human Events, who has numerous connections within the Trump administration and has traveled with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to Ukraine, regularly refers to Vance as the 48th president of the US.
