Former world boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk's visit to the White House reportedly helped change Donald Trump's attitude toward Ukraine. During an extended conversation, the Ukrainian boxer shared his personal experiences of Russia's war with the US president, according to The Wall Street Journal.

A shared admiration and a conversation about the war

According to the report, Trump and Usyk quickly bonded over their admiration for Muhammad Ali, with whom the Ukrainian champion shares the same birthday. As a gesture of respect, Usyk presented the US president with a signed boxing glove and said that Ukrainians are fighters and winners who will never stop defending their country.

The boxer also told Trump how members of his own family were forced to shelter from Russian missile attacks in Kyiv. Since the US president is known for respecting strong personalities and liking winners, the candid conversation with the heavyweight champion reportedly left a lasting impression.

Explaining the difference between Ukrainians and Russians

During the meeting, Trump directly asked Usyk what distinguishes Ukrainians from Russians.

In response, Usyk pointed to his head and heart, saying that the key difference lies in people's mindset and spirit.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the meeting played an important role in Trump's recent reassessment of the situation in Ukraine, leading him to view Ukraine's fight against Russian aggression with greater sympathy.
