The US has suspended operations and planning of cyberattacks against Russia. This move is considered a serious blow, particularly given that planning such operations requires time and research, according to CNN.
According to an official, the concern is that the suspension of offensive cyber operations against Russia will make the US more vulnerable to potential cyberattacks from Moscow. He noted that Russia has a formidable team of hackers capable of disrupting critical US infrastructure and gathering sensitive intelligence.
Meanwhile, CNN reports that the pause in operations and planning by US Cyber Command, the military’s offensive and defensive cyber unit, occurred amid efforts by the Trump administration to achieve broader de-escalation in relations with Russia.
"Due to operational security concerns, we do not comment nor discuss cyber intelligence, plans, or operations. There is no greater priority to Secretary Hegseth than the safety of the warfighter in all operations, to include the cyber domain," added a senior military official to CNN, referring to US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
