US State Department comments on resignation of Ukraine's Foreign Minister
The United States highly praised Dmytro Kuleba's work as head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Kuleba was an important partner of the US in traveling around the world to increase support for Ukraine among other countries.
A journalist asked Miller how he felt about the changes in the Ukrainian government that are currently taking place.
The American official said that it would be inappropriate for him to give personal assessments of such decisions. However, he did say that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called Dmytro Kuleba to express how much he had enjoyed working with him over the past few years.
“Foreign Minister Kuleba has been an extraordinary partner of the United States in our work to support Ukraine, in repelling Russia’s aggression and fighting back against Russia’s aggression, as well as the work that we have done to marshal diplomatic support,” Miller said.
He added that in some ways, Minister Kuleba was the main partner of the United States in traveling around the world to gain diplomatic support for Ukraine, and to hold Russia accountable.
According to Miller, Blinken and Kuleba always raised the issue of providing Ukraine with air defense and other defense equipment first in meetings with other countries. The two working together tried to figure out how to solve very specific problems facing Ukraine, which continues to fight Russian aggression.
Miller also added that Blinken expressed his great gratitude and friendship to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba and that he was already looking forward to working with his successor.
Resignation of Dmytro Kuleba as Ukraine's Foreign Minister
On September 3, the head of the Servant of the People faction, Davyd Arakhamia, said that the Cabinet of Ministers was planning to reshuffle its staff. Subsequently, several ministers submitted their resignations. Dmytro Kuleba was among them.
RBC-Ukraine sources said that Kuleba may be appointed to the post of head of one of Ukraine's important embassies.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it was too early to talk about a new appointment for the former Ukrainian Foreign Minister.
