US Senate threatens sanctions on countries aiding ICC in Netanyahu's arrest
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has threatened countries willing to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that sanctions will be imposed, reports Fox News.
"If you are going to help the ICC as a nation and force the arrest warrant against Bibi and Gallant, the former defense minister, I will put sanctions on you as a nation. You’re gonna have to pick the rogue ICC versus America," said the senator.
Graham noted that he is working on a bill with fellow Republican Senator Tom Cotton. The bill would impose sanctions on countries that assist in the arrest of any Israeli politician.
"To any ally, Canada, Britain, Germany, France, if you try to help the ICC, we’re going to sanction you," Graham added.
ICC warrants
This week, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Israel's president and government strongly criticized the ICC, accusing it of antisemitism. The United States also expressed outrage over the ICC's arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant.
Meanwhile, Canada and European countries have hinted that they are prepared to arrest Netanyahu.
