US Open-2024: Kostyuk, Svitolina and four other Ukrainians make it to main draw
Six Ukrainian tennis players, led by Marta Kostyuk, have secured their spots in the main draw of the US Open, according to the official tournament website.
Ukraine's top player has advanced to the 1/64 finals of the US Open. She will be joined by five compatriots.
In the first round of the main draw, Kostyuk will be competing alongside Dayana Yastremska, Elina Svitolina, Angelina Kalinina, Lesia Tsurenko, and Kateryna Baindl. Baindl utilized a protected ranking to compete in New York. The qualifiers for the major include Daria Snigur, Yuliia Starodubtseva, Katarina Zavatska, Anastasiya Soboleva, and Valeriya Strakhova.
Last year, Svitolina was the best-performing Ukrainian, reaching the third round, where she lost to American Jessica Pegula. The tournament winner was another American, Coco Gauff.
This year's US Open will start on August 26 and run until September 8. The performance of Svitolina, who reached the semifinals in 2019, remains a benchmark for Ukrainian players.
