The United States is introducing special commemorative passports ahead of the country's major anniversary. For the first time, the document will feature a portrait of the current head of state, Donald Trump, according to The Independent.

Donald Trump will become the first president in history to have his image placed in a travel document during his lifetime. The concept was developed over several months, and the final decision has already been made.

Trump's photo will be printed on the inside page, and it will be an image of the politician with a stern expression, the article states.

But not everyone will be able to get such a passport. For now, it will only be available at the passport office in Washington. The document will be issued exclusively upon the applicant’s request. Those who do not want to see Trump in their passport will be able to choose the standard version.

Updated design and enhanced security

The changes will also affect the passport's appearance. The words United States of America on the cover will be printed in bold gold lettering. The word Passport will be moved to the bottom. This is the reverse order compared to standard passports.

Key features of the new design:

• Gold flag on the back cover
• Number 250 surrounded by stars
• Personalized illustrations inside.

"As the United States celebrates America’s 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed U.S. passports to commemorate this historic occasion. These passports will feature customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the U.S. passport the most secure documents in the world," State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott explains the details

Who else appeared on passports?

Typically, American documents feature only images of past leaders. Until now, only four presidents have appeared on passports. These are the ones whose profiles are carved into Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.

They are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Now Donald Trump will join this distinguished list.

Modern passports also feature other symbols of freedom. They include images of the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, and Independence Hall. They also feature quotes from Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy.
