House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries has thrown his support behind the impeachment of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth over his conduct in the war with Iran, Bloomberg reports.

Democrats plan to discuss a potential resolution on Tuesday, when they convene for the first time since their victory in the midterm elections.

Efforts to remove the head of the Pentagon gained momentum after the war with Iran resulted in a significant defeat for Republicans on November 3.

Previously, Republican Representative Thomas Massie attempted to initiate Hegseth’s impeachment for waging war without congressional approval and has announced his intention to reintroduce articles of impeachment.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated that he has no plans to replace the official, praising his work as a job well done.

"The so-called Secretary of Defense has abused his power, undermined our national security and engineered this reckless and costly war of choice in Iran, which has skyrocketed prices on the American people and made the country less safe. Pete Hegseth has got to go," Jeffries stated.

Attempts to exert political pressure and threats of impeachment against officials are often accompanied by bombastic statements and comparisons to past events in American politics.

In particular, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth previously dismissed the threat of his removal, stating that the impeachment initiative did not work against Trump, so it will not work against him either.

This follows active maneuvering in Congress, where lawmakers have been preparing to impeach Pentagon chief Hegseth amid political initiatives and mounting pressure from individual legislators.
