US confirms death of third soldier amid Iran conflict

The US Central Command has stated that another American service member died in recent days amid the resumption of clashes between Washington and Iran. This is the third fatality, according to a CENTCOM post on social media platform X.
"Separately, a U.S. service member in northern Iraq was killed in action July 18 during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone," the statement said.
It added that another service member was wounded and continues to receive medical care for a minor injury.
"CENTCOM is withholding additional information, including the identities of the missing and fallen warriors, out of respect for the families during the notification process," the post said.
The command also recalled that a day earlier, they had reported the deaths of two soldiers and the disappearance of a third following an Iranian attack on July 17. After a thorough search of the attack site, unidentified remains were discovered.
"An examination process to verify the remains is ongoing," CENTCOM concluded.
Thus, at present, three confirmed cases of soldier fatalities are officially known.
Background
In July, fighting resumed between Iran and the US. This happened after Tehran repeatedly struck vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, to which Washington responded with strikes on Iranian territory.
A few weeks ago, US President Donald Trump said that after the Iranian attack, the ceasefire had ended.
Over the weekend, Iran officially announced it would cease fulfilling its obligations under the ceasefire agreement.
