US and EU schedule talks on new Russia sanctions - AP

A team of European officials will meet with US representatives on Monday, September 8, to discuss various forms of economic pressure on Russia, including new sanctions, according to the Associated Press.
An informed source cited by the media reported that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent spoke on September 5 with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The previous day, US Vice President JD Vance held talks with a senior EU official.
Earlier reports stated that US President Donald Trump held a heated phone conversation with European leaders following the Coalition of the Willing meeting in Paris on September 4.
EU representatives proposed that Trump send delegates to Washington within 48 hours to form a working group on sanctions against Russia.
On September 5, European Council President António Costa, at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Uzhhorod, announced that work on a new sanctions package had already begun in Brussels, and that the European team was heading to Washington to coordinate with American partners.
