Umerov and Syrskyi talk with Bundeswehr Inspector General
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umyerov introduced the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi at a meeting with the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr Carsten Breuer in Kyiv on February 9, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
As reported, during the meeting, the colonel-general informed his German colleague about the situation on the front line and thanked Germany for its contribution to strengthening the Ukrainian army.
The parties discussed the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in weapons, ammunition and air defense systems.
"We are aiming at fruitful cooperation, effective communication and exchange of experience in real-time," Umerov stressed.
Appointment of Syrskyi as Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces
Yesterday, February 8, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced the decision to dismiss Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Instead, Oleksandr Syrskyi was appointed as the new Commander-in-Chief.
Rumors about Zaluzhnyi's dismissal appeared at the end of January 2024. However, even before that, different sources wrote about the possible dismissal of Zaluzhnyi.
