Over the past few days, Ukraine’s Defense Forces have managed to thwart a series of Russian offensive operations, and advance in the Sumy region, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Ukrainian Armed Forces troops broke through northeast of Sumy. This is also confirmed by geolocated footage released on October 12. It shows Ukrainian troops advancing southeast of Yunakivka, located northeast of the regional center.

In the northern part of the Kharkiv region, Russian troops continued offensive operations on October 12 and 13, but to no avail.

Near Kupiansk, the occupiers continue to use Ukrainian civilians as human shields to facilitate their own retreat. Such actions are a direct violation of international humanitarian law.

According to a source covering the activities of Russia’s western group of forces, Russians also attacked southeast of Borova on October 13. However, the ISW team found no evidence of Russian advances in this section of the front.

In the Lyman direction, on October 12 and 13, Russian troops focused their attacks on Lyman itself and north of the city, toward Kolodiazy. However, they failed to establish themselves in new positions due to counterattacks by Ukrainian defenders.

Russian troops also recently attempted to infiltrate Ukrainian positions northwest of Chasiv Yar. Following this attempt, according to ISW’s assessment, Ukrainian forces struck Russian positions in the eastern part of Klynove. This is confirmed by geolocated footage published on October 12.

In the Kostiantynivka direction, on October 12 and 13, the occupiers attacked within the city, west of it, and southwest of Druzhkivka. However, no advances were recorded in these areas.

In addition, Russian troops recently attempted infiltration south of Dobropillia. In response, Ukrainian defenders struck Russian troops in the western parts of Matiashеve and Svitlе, located south of the city.

In the Oleksandrivka direction, Russian troops continued offensive operations on October 12 and 13 but made no gains. Ukrainian forces conducted counterattacks toward Fedorivka.

In the Huliaipole direction, Russian occupiers also attempted to advance on October 11 and 12 but were unable to make any progress.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported on how air defense forces repelled Russia’s new massive attack on October 14 and how many targets they neutralized.

Meanwhile, Ukraine carried out one of the largest attacks on Moscow and the surrounding region.
