Ukrainian gymnast wins historic gold at European Gymnastics Championship

17-year-old Ukrainian gymnast Taisiia Onofriichuk became the European champion in the individual all-around final, according to the competition results.
How the all-around went
In Tallinn, Estonia, where the competition is taking place, Onofriichuk won with a result of 117.800 points, beating her main competitor–Bulgarian Stiliana Nikolova (116.700 points).
Third place went to former Russian Daria Varfolomeev, who represents Germany (115.150 points). Another Ukrainian–Polina Karyka – finished 10th.
Onofriichuk declared leadership ambitions already in qualification, showing the highest result–90.050 points. In the final, she continued her dominance, in particular receiving the best scores in the hoop exercise (29.950 points) and the ball exercise (28.600 points).
The final part of the competition took place in two groups. Onofriichuk competed in group A and maintained the lead until the end, despite pressure from her Bulgarian rival.
Path to the title
For Onofriichuk, this was her second appearance at the European Championship. Last year, she debuted at the continental championship, where she stopped at the ninth position.
Since then, the athlete has significantly improved her results–only in 2025, she participated in six international tournaments and won 29 medals, 18 of which are gold.
Historic gold
This "gold" became historic – the last time Ukraine won in the individual all-around at the European Championship was back in 1997.
Onofriichuk became only the third Ukrainian woman to climb to the top of the podium in this discipline after Kateryna Serebrianska (1996) and Olena Vitrichenko (1997).
What’s next?
This “gold” also became the first highest-level medal for Ukraine at the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship since 2023, when Viktoriia Onopriienko won in the hoop exercise.
Onofriichuk, in addition to the all-around, is contending for medals in performances with individual apparatuses. The Ukrainian qualified for all four finals at Euro 2025. They will take place on Sunday, June 8.
