Ukrainian Energy Minister estimates damage caused by Russia's latest massive attacks on energy sector
The latest wave of Russian massive strikes on the energy sector has caused Ukraine more than $1 billion in losses, states Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko.
"Today, we are talking about losses of more than a billion dollars. But the attacks continue, and it is obvious that the losses will grow," the minister said.
According to him, the main Russian attacks were on thermal and hydroelectric generation facilities, as well as electricity transmission systems.
"The system is stable today, but the situation is quite complicated," Galushchenko emphasized.
Russian strikes on the energy sector
This spring, Russia stepped up its attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector. The Russians targeted large thermal power plants and CHPs. In particular, the Russians destroyed Trypillia TPP in the Kyiv region with missiles, as well as CHP-5 in Kharkiv and Zmiiv TPP in the Kharkiv region.
According to Halushchenko, Russian strikes on the energy sector during the warm season may be related to the preparation of the Global Peace Summit.
Despite the Russian strikes and destroyed TPPs and CHPs, Ukraine has managed to avoid large-scale blackouts in the regions.
