Ukrainian Air Force shoots down Russian drone Orion in Kursk sector

Today, on August 31, the Ukrainian military shot down a Russian Orion drone. The enemy drone was shot down in the Kursk sector, reports the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“At about 11:00 a.m. on August 31, 2024, the Air Force shot down a Russian Orion unmanned aerial vehicle in the Kursk direction,” the Air Force said.
What is known about the enemy drone
Orion is a medium-altitude, long-range drone. It has been in service with the Russian army since 2020.
The onboard equipment is designed for visual, radar, or radio reconnaissance with the possibility of long-term patrolling in a designated area.
Technical characteristics:
- The weight of the drone is 1150 kg.
- The payload is 200 kg.
- It can be equipped with up to four different types of ammunition, including air-to-surface missiles.
The Air Force has already shot down UAVs of this type in other areas.
In particular, back in 2023, the Ukrainian military shot down a Russian Orion UAV in the Kherson region.
