Ukraine's Navy destroys Russia's newest Kama sea drone near Snake Island

The Ukrainian Navy, together with one of the SBU's special units, carried out a successful special operation in the waters of the Black Sea. Near Snake Island, they detected and struck an enemy naval drone, the Kama.
How the strike took place
The special operation in the Black Sea waters was carried out jointly by servicemembers of the Navy and one of the SBU's special units. Near Snake Island, Ukrainian forces detected and struck an enemy unmanned boat. After being hit, the boat caught fire and detonated, and the target was destroyed.

What is the Kama unmanned boat?
The multifunctional unmanned boat Kama is a development of ZALA (a subsidiary of the Kalashnikov concern), which was officially presented for the first time on June 11, 2026, at the International Maritime Defense Show Fleet-2026 in Kronstadt. According to the manufacturer, two modifications of the craft were shown at the exhibition.
According to ZALA's official release, the boat has the following characteristics:
- Endurance — up to 12 hours;
- Cruising speed — 12 knots (22.2 km/h), maximum — 30 knots;
- Range — up to 700 km;
- Payload capacity — up to 600 kg of useful payload;
- Ability to maintain position in sea conditions of up to 3 points;
- Equipped with thermal imaging cameras and an automatic return-to-base system in the event of losing the communication channel with the operator.
The manufacturer positions the Kama as a dual-purpose craft — for hydrographic work, environmental monitoring and cargo delivery, as well as for patrolling and special tasks.
Meanwhile, attacks on unmanned boats remain a constant part of the confrontation in the Black Sea. In late July — early August, the Defense Forces struck a storage and maintenance base for unmanned boats in the area of Chornomorske in occupied Crimea. According to the military, the Russians prepared and maintained boats for combat and special tasks in the Black Sea there.
Earlier, throughout July, the Russians claimed to have destroyed as many as five Ukrainian naval drones off the coast of Romania — although these were craft that, under the influence of Russian electronic warfare, lost control and were carried away from their planned route into neutral waters.
