Ukraine considers US President Donald Trump's call to end the war as a strong signal. Ukraine needs US leadership, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha at a panel discussion Ukraine: The Road Ahead on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

“It was a really strong message and a strong signal. We need to increase pressure on Russia and force it to negotiate. We need US leadership. We need more US engagement of USA,” the Foreign Minister said.

He also emphasized the need to weaken Russia through stronger sanctions and to strengthen Ukraine. According to him, this deterrence package is needed to stabilize the situation, first of all on the battlefield, and to strengthen Ukraine's military defense capabilities.

“We really welcome such strong messages from President Trump. And we believe that he will be a winner. And we believe that we have an additional chance to get a new dynamic in diplomatic efforts to end this war and achieve a long-last and just and comprehensive peace,” the minister added.

Trump's call to Putin

Yesterday, on January 22, US President Donald Trump posted on his social network Truth Social an address to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump called on Russia to conclude a deal to end the war in Ukraine shortly. Otherwise, he threatened to impose more tariffs and sanctions.

Trump is preparing a call with Putin. It is not yet clear when the first contact between the US president and the Russian leader might take place.
