Ukraine boasts over 100 tank battalions in its brigades - Zelenskyy

Ukrainian combat brigades now operate more than 100 tank battalions. These are experienced units, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports.
The Head of State noted that the courage and accuracy of Ukrainian tank crews, along with the firepower and maneuverability of tanks, are crucial for defending Ukrainian positions and destroying the enemy and their fortifications.
“Across our combat brigades, over 100 tank battalions are in operation, all of which are experienced units - a substantial tank force in Europe. The warriors we are proud of. Experience that Ukraine is ready to share with our partners,” the Ukrainian President emphasized.
Zelenskyy added that he awarded the best Ukrainian tankers who distinguished themselves in defending the Ukrainian state and its positions.
Tank battalion
It is worth noting that structures may differ across armies, but a tank battalion typically includes:
- 30-40 tanks;
- support units - communications, repair, supply, reconnaissance, medical service.
A tank battalion performs key combat tasks: it can conduct offensive and defensive operations, breach enemy defenses, support infantry, and other units. These units are also used for counterattacks and to cover strategically important directions.
In terms of personnel, a tank battalion usually has between 300 and 500 servicemen. The exact number depends on the country and the organizational structure of the armed forces.
As previously reported, Canada will allocate 20 million Canadian dollars (approximately 15 million USD) for the repair and maintenance of Ukrainian Leopard 2 tanks in Poland.
