U.S. Coast Guard recovers evidence on TITAN submersible disaster
According to the U.S. Coast Guard press service, the U.S. Coast Guard has managed to locate and recover debris from the deep-sea submersible TITAN along with probable human remains.
"The Coast Guard received debris and evidence recovered from the seafloor at the site of the TITAN submersible. US medical personnel will analyze the retrieved items, which are believed to include human remains," the press service statement reads.
According to a representative of the Coast Guard, the investigation into the TITAN accident is ongoing and involves a team of investigators from multiple countries.
"There is still a substantial amount of work to be done to understand the factors that led to the catastrophic loss of the TITAN and help ensure a similar tragedy does not occur again," stated MBI Chair Captain Jason Neubauer, the head of the agency.
TITAN submersible crash
The TITAN submersible disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean on June 18. It carried five people who were heading towards the wreckage of the Titanic liner. Five days later, on June 23, debris from the submersible was reported to have been found. Preliminary data suggests that the submersible's hull could not withstand the pressure at the ocean's depths.
Shortly after, Commander of the US Coast Guard First District, John Moger, announced that all crew members had tragically perished. Maritime agencies and the Canadian police are conducting their own investigations into the accident.
