Two suspects arrested in France over Louvre robbery, Le Figaro reports

According to the outlet, both men are in custody on suspicion of organized theft and participation in a criminal network. One was arrested at Roissy Airport while attempting to fly to Algeria, and the other in the Paris region of Saint-Denis. Authorities are still searching for possible accomplices.

Investigators say the thieves left more than 150 traces at the Napoleon Gallery, including DNA, fingerprints, and other evidence.

Despite the arrests, the stolen jewels — eight pieces valued at around €88 million — have not yet been recovered. The items include diadems, necklaces, earrings, and brooches once owned by Empress Marie-Louise, Queen Hortense, Queen Maria Amalia, and Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. The crown of Empress Eugénie was found nearby, damaged and apparently discarded by the robbers during their escape.

Reminder: On October 19, the Louvre, France's main museum, was robbed. Thieves stole eight unique items valued at around $102 million.

The robbers broke into the Apollo Gallery, which houses Napoleonic-era jewelry, and managed to take the pieces during visiting hours. They then escaped on motorcycles. The incident exposed serious security flaws at the Louvre and caused widespread shock across France.

Although no arrests were made at the time, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez assured that authorities were actively pursuing the investigation.

As previously reported, the museum reopened on October 22, with losses estimated at €88 million.
