The US does not consider the plague outbreak in Russia to be a biological weapon, states US President Donald Trump during a conversation with journalists.
"We don't think so. Were going to find out but we don't think so," he noted.
Trump also reported that Russians claim the situation is allegedly fully under control.
Furthermore, the American leader was asked whether he currently feels the same about Russia as he did about China at the beginning of the COVID pandemic.
"China didn't say much and Russia's not saying much either but they say it is under control," Trump stated.
Media outlets reported that on September 25, 28-year-old Daria Shipilova, who worked at a plague research institute in the Irkutsk region of Russia, broke a test tube containing the pneumonic plague pathogen.
Subsequently, on September 29, the woman was hospitalized with symptoms of severe pneumonia. She died in the early hours of October 2.
Following this, media outlets reported that Russian leader Vladimir Putin was suspected of concealing information regarding the plague outbreak in the Irkutsk region.
The US sent a diplomatic note to Russia over the death of the laboratory employee from plague. Washington is demanding additional information, as Moscow has disclosed very few details.
Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin would soon hold a telephone conversation to discuss the probable case of pneumonic plague in the Irkutsk region.
