Trump unveils new global tariffs targeting 60 countries

As the media reports, the Trump administration will impose tariffs of 10% and 12.5% on goods from 60 countries, including the EU. The new measures are being introduced due to allegations of insufficient compliance with bans on forced labor.

According to Reuters, this step is the latest attempt by the White House to restore President Donald Trump's campaign concept of imposing global tariffs, after the US Supreme Court in February struck down the reciprocal tariffs of 10% to 50% that Trump had imposed in 2025.

In response to this decision, the US president imposed a temporary tariff of 10% for 150 days, which expires at 12:01 AM (7:01 AM Kyiv time).

The new tariffs mentioned above will take effect immediately as soon as the previous ones expire. However, goods currently in transit will be exempt from duties until 12:01 AM Eastern Time on July 28.

According to a notice in the Federal Register, tariffs on goods from the EU and Taiwan will be no less than 10%, while products from Japan, Switzerland, and South Korea will face no less than 12.5%. This level corresponds to the trade agreements these countries have concluded with the US.

Products from dozens of other countries will be subject to a 12.5% tariff. The only exceptions will be Mexico, Britain, Canada, and India, where, as it is believed, restrictions on the use of forced labor have been introduced. Therefore, these countries will also face a 10% tariff.

What else is known about the tariffs

At the end of last week, the Trump administration stated that it would appeal the judge's ruling regarding the blanket reinstatement of all tariffs that the US Supreme Court had ruled illegal.

Recently, Trump announced that he had imposed a 50% tariff against Canada. The new tariff applies to a wide range of goods imported from that country.
