US President Donald Trump is preparing to resume the supply of 2,000-pound (approximately 907 kilograms) bombs to Israel. It is expected that he will do so in the early days of his presidency, reports the Israeli edition Walla News.

The delivery of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel had previously been frozen by the administration of former US President Joe Biden.

Israeli Ambassador Mike Herzog in Washington shared details about Trump's plans to lift the pause on such weapon deliveries during an interview on January 20.

Additionally, the new US president is expected to lift sanctions imposed by the Biden administration on Israeli settlers accused of violent attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, according to the Israeli diplomat in the US.

Pause in the supply of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel

In May 2024, it was reported that the US had suspended the supply of certain ammunition to Israel. This marked the first such suspension since October 2023, when Hamas militants attacked Israeli territory.

The Biden administration later clarified that the suspension specifically applied to the delivery of 2,000-pound bombs. US officials explained the decision by expressing concerns over the potential impact of such bombs when used in densely populated areas of the Gaza Strip.

One of these bombs, weighing nearly 910 kg, can penetrate thick concrete and metal, creating a large blast radius.

Despite this, American officials assured that all other weapon supplies to Israel continued as usual.
