Trump states that his victory in election helps achieve ceasefire in Lebanon
Israel has endorsed a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah in Lebanon. Meanwhile, the team of the newly elected US president claimed the development resulted from Donald Trump’s victory in the elections, reports The Times of Israel.
The Times of Israel specifies that the statement was made by Mike Waltz, whom Donald Trump reportedly plans to appoint as National Security Advisor upon taking office. According to Waltz, it was Trump’s election victory that helped the parties come together to agree on a ceasefire in Lebanon.
“Everyone is coming to the table because of President Trump. His resounding victory sent a clear message to the rest of the world that chaos won’t be tolerated. I’m glad to see concrete steps towards deescalation in the Middle East,” Waltz wrote on the social media platform X.
He also clarified that the Iranian regime is the root cause of the chaos and terror spreading across the region, again emphasizing the Middle East.
“We will not tolerate the status quo of their support for terrorism,” Waltz added.
The Israeli Security Cabinet has approved a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, with hostilities set to end by tomorrow. Under the terms of the deal, Israel is required to withdraw its troops from Lebanese territory within 60 days.
Meanwhile, outgoing US President Joe Biden endorsed the statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, affirming that if Hezbollah violates the agreement, Israel retains its right to self-defense under international law.
