US President Donald Trump, during his communication with reporters, said he expects to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin soon.
Speaking to reporters on the morning of October 28, Trump said significant progress had been made in relations between Washington and Moscow regarding the war in Ukraine.
"And I think with Russia we are making a lot of progress — with Russia-Ukraine. There will be a meeting set up very soon, and I think a lot of progress is being made," the US president said.
When a reporter asked which meeting he was referring to, Trump replied:
"(A meeting with) President Putin and President Zelenskyy. and I think a lot of progress is being made," he added.
What preceded this
On October 27, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre held a phone call with Putin to discuss ending Russia's war against Ukraine.
They also spoke with Zelenskyy afterward. One of the topics discussed was potential future negotiations involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.
As previously reported, trilateral talks at the technical level are planned to take place in Abu Dhabi in the first half of November.
Reports of an agreement to resume the talks emerged following earlier diplomatic contacts.
However, this does not mean that a meeting between Trump, Zelenskyy, and Putin has been definitively agreed upon. Trump did not announce a specific date for a leaders' summit in his remarks.
