Republican senator Lindsey Graham is confident that US President Donald Trump will push Russia and Ukraine toward peace, according to Graham’s post on X.

According to Graham, President Trump, in seeking peace in the war between Russia and Ukraine, will do so by pushing both sides toward it.

He said that Trump would ensure that Ukraine remains a free and sovereign state with a strong ability to defend itself against future aggression. Graham added that too much has been sacrificed for any negotiations to result in a different outcome.

Graham noted that the world is closely watching how this war ends, and that the outcome must not encourage future aggression by others.

He also reiterated that Ukrainian children abducted by Russian authorities must be safely returned home.

Lindsey Graham's initiatives

Earlier, Republican senator Lindsey Graham warned that if Russia does not return the abducted Ukrainian children, he would push forward a bill to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. He called the abduction of Ukrainian children by Russian authorities a "vile and barbaric crime."

Graham is also a co-author of a bill introducing 500% tariffs on imports to the United States from countries that purchase Russian oil, petroleum products, natural gas, or uranium. The document includes both primary and secondary sanctions against Russia and individuals who support the Kremlin’s aggression against Ukraine.

The legislation is intended to weaken Russia’s economy and pressure Vladimir Putin into negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
