During the talks in Oslo, which US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner joined via video call, the latter once again urged Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries, reports Axios.

Kushner joined the meeting remotely and again insisted on Trump's demand that Ukraine stop strikes on Russian oil refineries, an informed source said.

The Axios source also added that he was very direct during the conversation.

After the meeting, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was ready to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries if Moscow took reciprocal steps.

US hopes Russia will be more willing to compromise

Axios also reported that Washington hopes Russia will be willing to compromise in negotiations with Ukraine, as Donald Trump agreed to lift sanctions on Russian diesel fuel sales and took other steps that were positively received in Moscow.

Overall, an anonymous US official said that Ukraine put forward new ideas and proposals, which were discussed in detail during the talks in Oslo.

According to the official, the sides made "meaningful progress" and now have a high level of alignment at the working level regarding the next steps.

On October 20, Witkoff traveled to Norway for talks with Zelenskyy and European leaders. After that, he intends to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Moscow considers the conflict between Trump and Zelenskyy a victory, which was triggered by the US agreement with Russia on supplying diesel fuel to the global market.
