Trump's administration denies Musk office in center of White House: The Times reveals reason
Billionaire Elon Musk sought to secure an office in the center of the White House. However, the US administration plans to establish his Department of Government Efficiency in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, keeping it farther from the Oval Office, reports The Times.
The decision was made by Susie Wiles, Chief of Staff to US President Donald Trump. She denied Elon Musk a permanent office in the West Wing of the White House.
According to the British edition, Wiles made it clear that she does not welcome people who want to work independently or act like stars.
Despite this, Musk, appointed head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), had previously sought an office close to the Oval Office.
Despite this, the senior leadership team of the department will be based in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, located on the White House grounds but a few minutes’ walk from the main complex, writes The Times.
Additionally, when asked earlier this week by reporters whether Musk would get an office in the West Wing, Trump responded negatively.
"No. He's getting an office for about 20 people that we're hiring to make sure that these [savings] get implemented," said the new US president.
What is known about Musk's department
The declared goal of the new DOGE Department under the Trump administration is to reduce government spending. Musk's partner in leading the project is Republican Vivek Ramaswamy.
However, The Washington Post recently reported that Ramaswamy will not be working with Musk in the new department (DOGE).
In mid-January, The New York Times wrote that Musk would receive an office in the White House complex near Trump.
As previously reported, one of the first decrees of the new US president on January 21 was the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency headed by Elon Musk.
It was initially expected that Trump’s decree would establish an office for DOGE in the White House, although he had initially stated that the group would operate outside the government.
According to the US president, Musk will have an office in the White House, where about 20 people will work. Trump also mentioned that the DOGE office in the White House would help ensure the implementation of executive decisions.
Musk is considered to be quite close to Trump. The well-known businessman, among other things, actively campaigned for the Republican candidate in the presidential election and became a significant donor to Trump's campaign. Additionally, the billionaire has made several sharp statements and sparked a media war against several global politicians.
