Trump reacts to events in Syria
The United States should not intervene in the developing conflict in Syria. This country is not a partner of the United States, says US President-elect Donald Trump.
Trump said that opposition fighters in Syria have completely captured numerous cities in a well-coordinated offensive and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, apparently preparing to take a very big step toward removing Assad.
“Russia, because they are so tied up in Ukraine, and with the loss there of over 600,000 soldiers, seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years,” the politician emphasized.
He emphasized that Russia has never benefited much from Syria and said that the United States should not interfere in this conflict.
“Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, and the United States should have nothing to do with it. This is not our fight. Let it play out. Do not get involved!” he said.
Earlier today, Syrian rebels said they were trying to surround the capital Damascus.
Moreover, in the morning, Iran began evacuating its military command and personnel from Syria. This, in turn, according to Reuters, may indicate the impossibility of helping Assad retain power amid the rebel offensive.
