US President Donald Trump said that the US military had carried out airstrikes against terrorists in Somalia. However, he did not name the names of those killed or the number of casualties among the Islamic State terrorist group, Bloomberg reports.

“This morning I ordered precision Military air strikes on the Senior ISIS Attack Planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia... These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies,” Trump said in a social media post.

Trump said that the strikes had "killed many terrorists without causing any harm to civilians." At the same time, the US president did not provide any details, except to say that the US military had been tracking a man he called an "ISIS attack planner" for years.

CNN notes that these strikes are the first that Trump has ordered during his second term in office.

The White House, for its part, has not commented on the situation beyond Trump's social media post, and a White House official said the Defense Department would provide additional information when it is appropriate.
